Muhammad in Qur'an

When I collected Qur’anic verses about Muhammad Rasoolullah (S.W.A.S) the collection covered 74 pages. The present collection is the smallest possible collection.

HIS COMING
WAS HERALDED

Supplication of
Prophet Ibrahim

“Our Lord, raise in their midst (Our descendants) a Messenger from among them, who should recite to them Your verses, and teach them the Book and the Wisdom, and cleanse them of all impurities (spiritual)”
(Al-Baqarah 02/127-129)

(This is the supplication of prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismill while raising the walls of Ka’bah)

Divination of
Prophet Jesus

(Remember) when Isa, son of Maryam, said,

“O children of Israil, I am a messenger of Allah sent towards you, confirming the Torah that is (sent down) before me, and giving you the good news of a messenger who will come after me, whose name will be Ahmad. But when he (the promised one) came to them with manifest signs, they said, .This is a clear magic.
(As-saff 61/06)
HIS CREDENTIAL

Untutored,
unlettered

He is the One who raised amidst the unlettered people a messenger from among themselves who recites to them His verses, and purifies them (spiritually), and teaches them The Book and the Wisdom.
(Al-Juma 62/01)

Possessed
Tremendous
Virtues

There is indeed a good model for you in the Messenger of Allah - for the one who has hope in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah profusely.
(Al-Ahzab 33/21)

Mercy for
All worlds

And We have not sent you but as mercy for all the worlds.
(Al-Anbiya 21/07)

PROPHETDOOD

First Revelation

“Read with the name of your Lord who created (everything) He created man from a clot of blood. Read and your Lord is the most gracious. Who imparted knowledge by means of the pen He taught man what he did not know.
(Al-Alaq 96/01-05)

Command
to preach
2nd. revelation

O you wrapped up in a mantle, stand up and warn, and pronounce the greatness of your Lord,
(Al-Mudassir 74/ 01-03)

Affirmation

Ya sin, By the Qur’an, that is full of wisdom, You are truly one of the Messengers of Allah.
(Ya’sin 36/01-03)

(O Prophet, Muhammad) Say,

“O people, I am a messenger of Allah (sent) to you from the One to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. There is no God but He. He gives life and brings death. So, believe in Allah and His Messenger the Ummiy (unlettered) prophet.
(Al-Araf 07/158 p)

We have sent you to be a Messenger for the people.
(An-Nisa 04/79 p)

WHAT HE
PREACHED

Faith

The Messenger has believed in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and the believers as well. All have believed in Allah and His Angels and His Books and His Messengers”.
(Al-Baqarah 02/285 p)

(Believe i.e. Faith in Allah entails doing what He has commanded to do and not doing what He has forbidden)

The most
Comprehensive
verse

Allah enjoins

Adl (justice),

Ehsan (giving without right or claim)

Eita-e-Zil-Qurba (giving relatives their due rights),

and forbids

Fahsha (All forms of indecencies)

Munkir (evil deeds)

and Bghe  (transgression).

He instructs you that you may be mindful.
(An-Nahl 16/90)

(According to Muslim scholars this is the most comprehensive verse, it embraces all the deeds a man is capable of doing.)

The perfect religion

Today, I have perfected your religion for you, and have completed My blessings upon you, and chosen Islam as Din (religion and way of life) for you.
(Al-Ma’idah 05/03 p)

O you who believe enter Islam completely.
(Al-Baqarah 02/208 p)

(0ne cannot be selective about injunctions of Islam.)

Total submission

Say, “My prayers, my offerings my life and my death are for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
(Al-An’am 06/162)

INSTRUCTIONS
FOR PREACHNG

Invite (people) to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good counsel. And argue with them in the best of manners.
(An-Nahal 16/125 p)

Do not revile those whom they invoke other than Allah, lest they should revile Allah out of spite, without having knowledge. This is how We have made the deeds of every community attractive in their sight. Then, to their Lord is their return, after which He shall tell them what they have been doing.
(Al-An’am 06/108)

And recite what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is none who can change His words, if you do so, you will not find a refuge beside Him.
(Al-Kahaf 18/27)

Say, “O people, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So, whoever accepts guidance accepts it in his own benefit, and whoever goes astray does so to his own detriment. And I am not responsible for you.
(Yunus 10/108)

INSOLENCE
OF INFIDELS

The disbelievers say, “This is a magician, a sheer liar. Has he (not) turned all the gods into single God? It is very strange thing indeed.
(Sad 38/4, 5)
When they see you, they take you as a laughing stock, (saying) “Is this the man whom Allah has chosen as messenger? He would have led us astray from our gods, had we not been so firm towards them.
(Al-Furqan 25/41, 42)

They say, .O you to whom the Zikr (the Qur‘an) has been revealed, you are surely insane.
(Al-Hijr 15/06)

Keep reminding (them), because by the grace of your Lord, you are neither a soothsayer, nor a mad man.
(At-Tur 52/29)

Then said the chiefs of his nation whom we made affluent in the worldly life, “this man is nothing but a human being. He eats what you eat, and drinks from what you drink.

If you obey a human like yourselves, then you will be absolute losers. Does he promise you that when you die and are turned into dust and bones, you are to be brought forth? Far too improbable is what you are being promised.
(Al-Mu’minoon 23//33-38)

JEWS/CRISTIANS

Obstinacy

They said, .Become Jews or Christians, and you will find the right path...

Say: .Instead, (we follow) the faith of Ibrahim, the upright, - and he was not one of those who associate partners with Allah.
(Al- Baqarah 02/135)

The Jews and Christians say ”We are the sons of Allah, and His favorite”.

Say “Why would He punish you for your sins?
(Al-Mai’idah 05/18 p)
Say, (to Jews) If the last abode with Allah is specially for you, to the exclusion of all people, then make a wish for death, if you are true.

But they will never wish for it because of what their hands sent ahead. Allah is all aware of unjust.
(Al-Baqarah 02/94-95)

The Jews say,”Uzair (Ezra) is son of Allah, and the Christians say Masih( the Christ) is son of Allah.” This is this is saying of their mouth. They imitate the saying of earlier disbelievers. May Allah ruin them, how far they are turned back from the truth.
(At-Taubah 09/30)

Preaching
To Them

Say, .O people of the Book, come to a word common between us and between you, that we worship none but Allah, that we associate nothing with Him and that some of us do not take others as Lords instead of Allah. Then, should they turn back, say, Bear witness that we are Muslims. O people of the Book, why do you argue about Ibrahim, while the Torah and the Injil were not revealed until after him? Have you, then, no sense?
(Al-Imran 03/64-65)

Do not debate with the people of the Book unless it is in the best of manners, except those of them who commit injustice.
(Al-Ankabut 29/46)

HIS GRIEF

So, (O Prophet) perhaps you are going to kill yourself after them, out of grief, if they do not believe in this discourse.
(Al-Kahaf 18/06)

Indeed We know that what they say makes you sad, because it is not you whom they reject, but the transgressors actually deny the signs of Allah.
(Al-An’am 06/ 33)

SOLACE AND
ENCOURAGEMENT

I swear by the forenoon, and by the night when it becomes peaceful,

-       your Lord (O Prophet,) has neither forsaken you,

-       nor has become displeased.

-       Surely the Hereafter is much better for you than the present life.
-       And of course, your Lord will give you so much that you will be pleased.

-       Did He not find you an orphan, and give you shelter?

-       And He found you unaware of the way (the Shariah), then He guided you.

-       And He found you in need, then made you need-free.
(Al-Duha 93/01-08)

And if they reject you, so did reject the people of Nuh (Noah) and Ad and Thamud, and the people of Ibrahim and the people of Lut(Lot), and the people of Madyan as well. Musa was (also) rejected.
(Al-Hajj 22/ 42-44)

We know that your heart feel distressed for what they say. So proclaim the purity an glory of your Lord, and be among them who prostrate themselves (before Allah), and worship your Lord until comes to you that which is certain.
(Al-Hijr 15/98,99)

THE BELIEVERS

(The believers) have said “We have listened and we have obeyed”
(Al-Baqarah 02/285 (p))

Surely, there has come to you, from your midst, a Messenger who feels it very hard if you face a hardship, who is very anxious for your welfare, and for the believers he is very kind, very merciful.
(At-Taubah 09/128)

Virtues
of Muslims

Surely Muslim men and Muslim women, believing men and believing women,, devout men and devout women, truthful men and truthful women, patient men and patient women, humble men and humble women, and the men who give Sadaqah (charity) and the women who give Sadaqah, and the men who safeguard their private parts (against evil acts) and the women who safeguard (theirs), and the men who remember Allah much, and the women who remember (Him)- for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and great reward.
(Al-Ahzab 33/35)

JIHAD

Fight them until there is not Fitnah (idolatry) any more, and total obedience becomes for Allah. So, if they desist, then, Allah is indeed watchful over what they do.
(Al-Anfal 08/39))

O Prophet, carries out Jihad (struggle) against the disbelievers and hypocrites, and be strict with them. And their abode is Jahannam (Hell), and it is an evil terminus.
(Al-Taubah 0973)
Prepare against them whatever force you can, and the trained horses whereby you frighten Allah‘s enemy and your own enemy and others besides them whom you do not know. Allah knows them.
(Al-Anfal 08/60 p)

HIS BATTLES

BADAR

The infidels set forth from their home Makkah, waxing proud, intending to attack Madina and overpower Muslims.

Satan made their deeds look beautiful in their eyes, and said “None of the people can overpower you today.

Rasoolullah (S.W.A.S) set out from Madina with his followers, (outnumbered and ill-equipped) the two groups faced each other in the valley of Badar.

Muslims were on the nearest end of the valley and the infidels were at the farthest.

Allah, in the dream of Muslim showed the infidels fewer in number, so that Muslims seeing the larger number of enemy, may not be demoralized, and showed them  to the infidel many in numbers.

Allah inspired the angels saying “I am with you. So, make firm the feet of those who believer. I shall cast awe into the hearts of those who disbelieve. So strike at the necks, and strike at every finger-joint of their (disbelievers).

But when the two groups faced each other Satan turned back on his heels and said “ I quit you, I am seeing what you do not see. I am scared of Allah and Allah is severe in punishment.

Allah saved the believers, and gave them victory over disbelievers

Thus Allah accomplished what was destines to be done.
(Summarized)
(Al-Anfal 08/11, 42-44, 47-48)

AHZAB

Recall when the enemy came upon you from the above and from below, and when the eyes were distracted, and the hearts reached the throats, and you were thinking about Allah all sorts of thought. At that time the believers were put to a trial and were shaken a violent convulsion.

The hypocrites and those having malady in their hearts were saying, Allah and His messenger did not promise us but delusions, and when a group of them said “O people of Madina you cannot stand the attack therefore go back.

But those who had made a covenant with Allah that they would not turn their backs; and a covenant with Allah has to be answered for,

Say (O prophet) “Flight will never be of any use to you, if you flee from death or killing, and even then you will not be left to enjoy (life) but for a little while.

O you who believe, remember Allah’s favor to you, when the forces (of infidels) came upon you, and We sent upon them a wind, and the forces (of angel) you did not see. (the wind routed the enemy’s” tents and angels fought them, consequently they retreated in disorder.)
(Summarize)
(Al-Ahzab 33/12, 42-44, 48)

Explanation

A coalition formed by  Banu Nazeer,Ghassan, Banu Asad, Banu Salim and Banu Sa’ad gathered an army of 10,000, and marched towards Madina, in the month of Zi-Quad in 5th. Hijri.

Rasoolullah (S.W.A.S) was not unaware, his sympathizers, who were in almost all tribes in the vicinity of Madina were informing of the progress of invading army.

Rasoolullah (S.W.A.S) had an army of 3000. Outnumbered, on the advice of his companion Salman Farsi Rasoolullah (S.W.A.S) entrenched himself.

The attacking army laid down a siege. The enemy could not cross the trench, so they shot arrows and flung stones. The siege continued for 25 days.

With the passage of time, with no success, due extreme cold and the problem of arranging provision for  this large army became severe and severe, as such the enemy  became disheartened.

Then came the terrible wind, which uprooted their tents. Consequently the enemy retreated, and ran away from the battle field in disarray.

This was the last invasion Madinah ever faced.

After this battle the strength of enemy was broken forever.

VICTORY OF
MAKKAH

But you thought that the Messenger and the believers would never ever return to their families, and it seemed good to your hearts, and you thought an evil thought and became a people who are ruined (by their selfishness).
Al-Fateh (48/12)

And He is the One who restrained their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Makkah after He had let you prevail over them, and Allah is watchful over what you do. They are those who disbelieved and prevented you from the Sacred Mosque (Al-Masjid-ul-Haram), and (prevented) the sacrificial animals that were detained from reaching their due place.

And (Allah would have allowed you to fight,) had there not been believing men and believing women whom you did not know that you might have trampled them, and thus a painful situation might have arisen for you because of them unknowingly; (This situation was avoided) so that Allah may admit to His mercy whom He wills.

And if they (the believing men and women) had moved (from Makkah), We would surely have punished those of them who disbelieved with a painful punishment.

When the disbelievers developed in their hearts indignation, the indignation of ignorance; then Allah sent down tranquility from Himself upon His Messenger and upon the believers, and made them stick to the word of piety, and they were very much entitled to it and competent for it. And Allah is All-Knowing about everything.

Indeed, Allah has made true to His Messenger the dream (shown) with truth:

You will definitely enter the Sacred Mosque Insha’Allah (if Allah wills,) peacefully, with your heads shaved, and your hairs cut short, having no fear. So He knew what you did not know, and He assigned before that a victory, near at hand.

He is the One who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the religion of truth, so that He makes it prevail over all religions. And enough is Allah for being a witness (to His promise).
Al-Fateh (48/24-28)

SPECIAL STATUS

Covenant of
All Prophets

When Allah made the prophets enter into a covenant: (saying) .If I give you a book and wisdom, then comes to you a messenger verifying what is with you, you shall have to believe in him, and you shall have to support him. He said, Do you affirm and accept my covenant in this respect? They said, .We affirm.. He said, .Then, bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.
(Al-Imran 03/81)

The Last
Prophet

Muhammad is not a father of any of your men, but he is a messenger of Allah and the last prophet.
( Al-Ahzab 33/40)

Send Blessings
and Salam to him

Surely, Allah and His angels send blessings to the Prophet. O you who believe, do pray Allah to bless him, and send your Salam (prayer for his being in peace) to him in abundance.
(Al-Ahzab 33/56)

Command
to obey him

O you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.
(Al-Nisa 04/59 p) 92

Jews and
Christians
also to obey

O people of the Book, Our Messenger has come to you making things clear to you after a gap between Messengers, lest you were to say, .there has not come to us a bearer of good news, and a Warner.. So, now there has come to you a bearer of good news, and a Warner.
(Al-Maida 05/19)

HIS HUMANITY

Say, (O prophet)” .Surely, I am but a human being like you;

it is revealed to me that your God is the One Go.
(Al-Kahaf 18/110 p)

Muhammad is but a messenger, there have been messengers before him. So, if he dies or killed, would you turn back on your heels?
(Al-Imran 03/144 p)

We have sent Messengers before you, and gave them wives and children. It is not for a messenger to bring a verse without the will of Allah. For every age there some rules prescribed.
(Ar’Ra’d 13/38)

HIS PROTOCL

O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet, unless you are permitted for a meal, not (so early as) to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited, go inside. Then, once you have had the meal, just disperse, and (do) not (sit for long) being keen for a chat. This (conduct of yours) hurts the Prophet, but he feels shy of (telling) you (about it), but Allah is not shy of the truth.

And when you ask anything from them (the blessed wives of the Prophet), ask them from behind a curtain. That is better for the purity of your hearts and their hearts.

It is not allowed for you that you hurt Allah‘s Messenger, nor that you ever marry his wives after him. Indeed, it would be an enormity in the sight of Allah.
(Al-Ahzab 33/53)

O you who believe, do not proceed ahead of Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah. Surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, and be not loud when speaking to him, as you are loud when speaking to one another, lest your good deeds should become void while you are not aware. Surely, those who lower their voices before Allah‘s Messenger are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for piety; for them there is forgiveness, and a great reward.

As for those who call you from behind the chambers, most of them have no sense. Had they remained patient until you come out to them, it would have been much better for them. And Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.
(Al-Hujrat 49/1-5)

DIRECTIONS
TO HIS WIVES

O prophet, say to your wives, .If you intend (to have the pleasure of) worldly life and its charm, then come on, and I shall give you some stuff, and release you in a handsome fashion; but if you intend (to gain the pleasure of) Allah and His messenger and (the betterment of) the Hereafter, then, Allah has prepared a great reward for those of you who are good in their deeds.

O wives of the Prophet, whoever from among you will commit a clearly shameful act, the punishment will be doubled for her; and it is easy for Allah to do so.

And whoever of you stays obedient to Allah and His messenger, and acts righteously, We shall give her twice her reward, and We have prepared for her a prestigious provision.

Remain in your homes, and do not display (your) beauty as it used to be displayed in the days of earlier ignorance.

and establish Salah, and pay Zakah, and obey Allah and His messenger.

Allah only intends to keep (all sorts of) filth away from you, O members of the family (of the prophet), and to make you pure through a perfect purification.

And be mindful of Allah‘s verses and the wisdom that is recited in your homes. Surely, Allah is All-Kind, All-Aware.
(Al-Ahzab 33/ 28-31 &33-34)

HIS WIVES
SANCTIFIED

O Prophet, say to your wives, “If you intend (to have the pleasures of) worldly life and its charm, then come on, and I shall give some stuff, and release you in a handsome fashion, but if intend (to gain the betterment of) the Herafter, then Allah has prepared a great reward for those of you who are good in their deeds.

O wives of Prophet, whoever from among you will commit a clearly shameful act, the punishment will be doubled for her; and it is easy for Allah to do so.
(Al-Ahzab 33/ 28-30)

O Prophet tell your wives and your daughters and the women of believers that they should draw down their shawls over them. That will it more likely that they are recognized, hence not teased.

(Al-Ahzab 33/ 59)
